Earthquake had a magnitude of 8.3 on the Richter scale (SR) that shook Chile forced 1 million residents to evacuate from their homes. The death toll has so far increased to 5 people.
The epicenter was located at a location as far as 54 kilometers from the city of Illapel and is about 280 kilometers from the capital of Santiago. The President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet will visit affected areas immediately to the earthquake.
Local authorities refer at least 5 people were killed by natural disasters. Most of the fatalities were in the city of Illapel. A 26-year-old woman was killed by a wall collapse in Illapel and a citizens perished in Santiago, due to a heart attack when the quake occurred.
"It's going to be a long night," said local citizens, Ronny Perez,
The earthquake damage houses, buildings and injuring several people. The flow of electricity in the region was cut off due to the earthquake and Illapel citizens don't get a proper drinking water supply. About 1 million citizens of Chile had to be evacuated to a safer location, after the Government released the evacuation orders.
